| Some might challenge the idea that there is anything interesting to say about water. After all, water is water is water. Well, our January, 2008 trip to the Miracle Springs Resort " Spa in Desert Hot Springs proved that there were a whole lot of fascinating things to teach us about -- and to brag about -- its water. By tapping into springs that lie on either side of an earthquake fault, the resort provides a series of eight scenic pools that range in temperature from a pleasantly warm Olympic-sized swimming pool, to “champagne” bubbling pools, to the hot-tub variety. While relaxing in the pools, you have a spectacular view of the San Jacinto Mountains. A bonus is that there is none of the sulfur odor frequently associated with hot springs. For drinking, the cold water from these springs has a fresh, pure, wholesome taste that boggles the mind. Even the most appropriate adjectives seem to fall short of describing just how good this water really is.
The resort’s architecture blends in excellently with its pool setting. The lobby and rooms were renovated in 2007 to provide 110 clean, spacious and comfortable rooms with microwaves and refrigerators; a presidential suite; and a separate guest house for a small group or family. The food is good whether dining in Chuckwalla’s Lounge or in a banquet setting. We were pleasantly pleased by the varied banquet menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Naturally, Miracle Springs’ own exquisite water is served. You can buy it bottled, but there is certainly no need. The resort’s staff is especially friendly and accommodating.
To go along with its water quality, the spa offers a full range of services, and its personnel are first rate. The extensive spa menu suggests how long you should spend in the hot mineral waters before or after each treatment. It was interesting to talk with spa clients from Palm Desert and Palm Springs who were waiting for treatments. When asked why they frequented Miracle Springs, they told us, “The value and therapists keep us coming back.” It proved to be the perfect spot for some relaxation and rejuvenation.
The meeting rooms at the resort are comfortable and can accommodate both small, and fairly large groups such as weddings and reunions (their primary group business), however, they are well-suited for business meetings, as well.
Many guests return home with a range of helpful skin care potions from the spa, but most frequently, they can be seen carting out large quantities of its water to enjoy at home. We did.
Located just 15 to 20 minutes from the Palm Springs Airport, Miracle Springs Resort " Spa is a little off the beaten track, but well worth the visit. Many of those in our group drove in from Ontario, San Diego and Los Angeles; we ventured from Arizona; and the rest flew in from the East Coast. The consensus? We all found it to be a great environment and a wonderful value; we enjoyed soaking in the natural hot mineral springs and look forward to a return visit.
