Alessandro Colaiacomo (San Pedro, California)
By Yvonne Mason & Jo Ann Michetti
Alessandro Colaiacomo arrived in California, from Rome, fifteen years ago. He had worked for Cinecitta Studios, Rome, as assistant director, traveling all over Italy before departing for southern California.
Alessandro cooked at L'Opera Ristorante in Long Beach, California, then at Stefano II Ristorante in Costa Mesa and Ristorante da Vinci in Long Beach, before coming to Trusela's in San Pedro five months ago. He likes to prepare grilled fish and grilled meat; each day, he cooks a different vegetable, with everything made to order. Another favorite is his mother's eggplant parmigiana; he uses her recipe. His personal dining pleasures include sushi and catroccio, a cannoli-like sweet bread stuffed with ricotta, fried and rolled in sugar.
As his demanding career doesn't leave much time to go back to Italy for a touch of home, his mother comes to California every year to visit. In California, his favorite place is the beach--but Alessandro is such an amazingly talent, we doubt he'll be spending much time there.
